The 2020 FSC trip to Snowmass, Colorado, gave Space Coast a great opportunity to return to what was an annual favorite club resort trip. Like our previous trip in 2017, our ski-in/ski-out accommodations at the Top of the Village Condos provided quick easy access to week full of beautiful ski conditions with days of sun and lots of corduroy to days with fresh powder. While one of the attractions to skiing Snowmass is the Power of Four, one ski pass for 4 mountain resorts, most found no need to leave Snowmass as it was a beautiful ski week with a large variety of runs to try.

Being a FSC trip, there were plenty of activities to attend but not before we had a private club dinner on Sunday at the Edge Restaurant. Our old favorite did not disappoint with their Bavarian influenced cuisine, a delicious start to the week. The FSC program added a nice Monday night welcome dinner, Tuesday mountain lunch and Thursday themed dinner. Prior to the Tuesday lunch, our small ski team (the A team of Amy, Alison and Angel along with Matt, Cal and Brice) made a valiant effort but could not overcome deteriorating conditions facing the 3rd race group to place in the running for the FSC trophy. But Amy, our race captain, and Brice did win NASTAR bronze medals! And the start of the snow storm did bring 2 days of fresh powder. For the Thursday theme of team spirit, our club went with Space Force as in “SPACE Coast Ski FORCE” with Star Trek themed outfits. With almost all 44 club members participating, we impressed the ski resort judges with our “ski long runs and prosper” philosophy, winning the team costume contest.

For the non-skiers and those who took a day or two off, Thursday also brought the start of the Winter X Games next door at the Buttermilk Resort. Competition included big air, super pipe and snowmobile races. Those athletes did some crazy and wild tricks. The free resort shuttle also provided easy access to the town of Aspen with plenty of shopping and dining options like truffle fries at the base of the AJAX lift among other things.

Overall it was a great trip with wonderful snow conditions, moderate temperatures, and no major injuries. Our old favorite resort was once again an enjoyable vacation for all. Thanks for traveling with Space Coast Ski and Travel Club. We hope to see you on a future trip.
