As 51 excited Space Coast Ski Club travelers made their way to the luxury tour bus outside the Denver Airport, the heavy snow swirled in huge flakes around them.   We arrived at the beautiful slope side Zephyr Mountain Lodge condos and then headed over to Doc’s Roadhouse for our private welcome reception.  There in the upstairs Coors Light bar area, we met with mountain reps and ski school instructors and started planning our first day on the slopes.  We awoke to almost 10 inches of fresh powder on Sunday.  All the new snow resulted with the Berthoud Pass being closed and this was the first of many days where we owned the slopes.  After skiing (and boarding) until we were exhausted, many hit the hot tubs before meeting up at Doc’s again to watch the Super Bowl on a giant movie screen.  Sharon McGrew cheered for her Steelers and encouraged everyone at her table to do the same!  On Monday, we had another 4 inches of fresh powder and many commented that it was their best day of skiing ever.  We were still making fresh tracks at lunch time.  And still the snow continued! Tuesday evening we enjoyed a fabulous dinner at The Cheeky Monk, a Belgian Beer Café.  They closed the restaurant just for our group.  People pulled tables together to sit with friends old and new and everyone had a wonderful time with delicious food selections and Belgian draughts.  We sang and celebrated Ryan Rodgers’ 15th birthday with a chocolate fondue dessert for his table.

The temperatures were cold all week, often in the single digits, but that just gave us an excuse to hit the warming huts for short breaks and some fellowship time.  Finding our friends was easy with our club’s new blue bandanas.  The favored lunch location was the Provisioner at Sunspot with its large oval tables and huge windows to take in the incredible views.  When not skiing, popular group activities included taking the scenic snowcat tour of the Winter Park mountain and snowmobiling to the Continental Divide.  On Friday we ended the ski week with a picture-perfect day of bright sunshine and temperatures in the low 20’s.  Many of our group made their way to the Panoramic Express lift going to the top of Parsenn Bowl to enjoy long runs above the tree line and then down through the glades.  We completed our week with a gondola ride up the Zephyr Express lift to the Lodge at Sunspot and a gourmet 5-course dinner.  We selected wines to complement our trout, chicken, rib eye steaks, or buffalo tenderloin dinners.  It was a perfect ending to a wonderful week at the Winter Park Ski Resort.
