Florida Ski Council Trip

Valle D’Aosta spans the small NW region of Italy, bordering on France in the west and on Switzerland in the north, and surrounded by its neighbor region of Piedmont in the east and south. It is one of the smallest and richest of 20 regions in Italy with the autonomy from Rome and the Italian Central Government.

Embracing a long history and culture dated back to 25 BC, Aosta is home of the four famous Alpine peaks, the Mont-Blanc - highest in Western Europe, Mount Cervino or Matterhorn, Mount Rosa - second highest, and Mount Gran Paradiso. It offers the Roman ancient city, churches, an amphitheater, and well preserved monuments. Visiting this town would become a journey in time that begins in 25 BC, when the Romans called this city Augusta Pretoria. It is also the home of the mediaeval, neo-classicist, as well as a modern town with the charm of the multi-culture of the French, German, Swiss and Italian.

Florence, founded by Julius Caesar in 59 B.C., is one of the most beautiful and ancient cities in Italy and the world. It gave to birth many of the men who have more profoundly influenced the course of human history in every field of knowledge, art, literature and philosophy. Florentia, the city of flowers was the place where the Renaissance grew and anticipated Enlightenment and thus Modernity as a whole.

Today Florence is a leading tourist attraction for places such as 1) the famous square - Piazza della Signoria; 2) the masterpiece of construction: Il Duomo (Cattedrale de Santa Maria del Fiore), Campinile - bell tower in Piazza del Duomo, or Ponte Vecchio - the world famous bridge; 3) the historical religious churches: the Baptistry of John the Baptist, the Piazza Santa Croce - Franciscan church that hold the tombs of Michelangelo and Dante; 4) fabulous museums - Uffizi Gallery, Pitti Palace, Boboli Gardens, or Florence’s Archeological Museum that displays great Egyptian and Etruscan collections.

Rome is a vibrant city with reminders of its past everywhere as you encounter ancient monuments, medieval and Renaissance buildings, fountains, and great museums. The Coloseum is the largest monument in existence from Imperial Rome. The Roman Forum, city’s most important archaeological sites, was the focal point of Republican Rome with 900 years of history monument. The Pantheon – Italy’s best-preserved ancient building. St. Peter’s Basilica is the largest Roman Catholic building in the world, where it houses important works by Michelangelo and Bernini. Vatican Museums, largest museum complex in the world, with it arts spanning 3000 years from the classical and modern world.
