Ogden, Utah
February 28 - March 7, 2009
Staying in Ogden is a little different from most ski destinations. Snowbasin and
Powder Mountain are located about 30 minutes outside of Ogden which meant we had
to ride a bus every morning to the ski resort. Actually, the ride to and from
the ski resorts were relaxing as we traveled through Ogden Canyon. With
temperatures reaching the low 40’s the first three days were some of the best
spring conditions anyone could ask for. Each ski resort had nearly 200 inches of
snow base, you could poke you ski poles in the snow down to the handle. It was
the type of weather where you had to make sure you had enough sun block on.
Wednesday brought a day off from skiing. Many of the members choose to take the
45-min train ride into Salt Lake City. From the SLC train depot you can access the SLC TRAX
trolley by walking across the parking lot. Yet, other members opted to visit the Air Force
Museum at Hill Air Force Base. The Marriott provide a valet to and from the museum.
When we returned to the slopes on Thursday Mother Nature graced the skiers with
6-inches of new “POWDER.” WHITE-OUT!!! Temperatures had fallen below 20 degrees F and the
snow kept falling all day. It was like skiing “first tracks” all day long. We soon
started strategizing our last runs so we didn’t miss the last bus bask to the Marriott. Friday was
our last day of skiing at Snowbasin and the snow continued falling. You can understand how painful it
was to return the ski equipment on Friday afternoon.
It seemed like we had something to do every night. On Sunday there was an
orientation hosted by the Ogden Convention Visitors Bureau. On Monday we all attended a banquet
dinner at the Union Station and got to tour the four museums inside. Tuesday had us wondering
around 25th Street on a pub crawl, finishing the evening at the Wise Guys Comity Club.
Wednesday we had a golf tournament at the Salomon Center and there was even a
going away Après Ski on Friday where we said farewell to our new friends prior to
departing on Saturday morning. With great spring conditions at the start of
the week, two days of endless powder and activities every night, our week In Ogden
came to an end way to soon.
