The
Last Best Place …located just
forty-five minutes from the Bozeman airport and surrounded by the Gallatin
National Forest, Lee Metcalf Wilderness and Yellowstone National Park, is the
ski area of Big Sky,
Montana. It is not unusual to stop so a bison can cross the road or to spot
a moose grazing. There are 32 dining options in the Big Sky vicinity, including
13 within walking distance from the Mountain Village. Après Ski boasts live
music, video and live poker, comedy, regional brews, extensive wine lists, and
unique cuisine.
Big Sky offers 3,600 acres and 150+ named runs on three
mountains. The longest run is six miles from Liberty Bowl to the Mountain Mall
and the skiable vertical is 4,350 ft. The average winter temperature is 25
degrees and the average annual snowfall is 400 inches. The sheer magnitude of
the area, coupled with a state-of-the-art lift system, make lift lines virtually
non-existent. The Summit is 11,166 ft. and the Mountain Village is at 7,500
feet. The terrain is geared for all levels of skiers and boarders, with about
half for advanced and experts and half for beginners and intermediates. A side
trip to Yellowstone National Park is an incredible adventure and an opportunity
not to be missed.
Accommodations at the
Huntley Lodge are 1st class double occupancy hotel rooms w/full
breakfast buffet.
